The act of being polite and acknowledging each other, particularly in front of your children, helps keep the climate between you and your co-parent cordial. Being polite is also a reparative gesture with your co-parent that models to your children that you can choose how you behave. Remembering that you both have little people in common, who are the most important people in your life, can be a reset button to remain more polite if this has been a problem area in the past
