Positive Self-Talk

The things you say to yourself affect your perceptions and feelings. If you say things that make it seem as if everything is bad and nothing will ever get better, it can actually make it harder for you to function and find solutions. Your thoughts can defeat and paralyze you. For this reason, try to avoid negative self-talk, such as:

  • ” I can’t take this anymore!”
  • “This is too hard for me.”
  • “Nothing I do makes a difference.”

These kinds of statements can affect how you feel and behave. When bad things happen to you, try to pay attention to the thoughts running through your head. Listen to what you’re saying to yourself. If you find that you’re making negative statements, try to stop and remind yourself that you have courage, strength, and resources to help you face the challenges. Try to use positive self-talk instead.
