Take a Break

Take a Break

Single parents may have less time, more pressure, and less support than others. Be creative. Listen to music as a stress buster. Classical music is especially soothing, and some studies suggest it may promote brain development in children. If you work outside the home, try to set aside a ten minute down time after coming home and greeting your child but before tackling your house and child-care duties. A special bag of books and toys kept near the crib or playpen to be played with only during this time can keep your child engaged while you savor a cup of tea or just close your eyes for a few minutes.
